What Longevity Means To Me: The Story Behind Future Advanced

Quick Answer

Skin longevity is the philosophy of supporting skin function, resilience, hydration continuity, radiance and overall skin quality as skin changes over time. It is not about trying to stop ageing or chase youth. It is about helping the skin behave as optimally and intelligently as possible throughout the ageing process.

Today, longevity is one of the most talked-about concepts in skincare.

Brands talk about longevity ingredients. Longevity technologies. Longevity treatments. Longevity routines.

The word is everywhere.

But when I hear longevity discussed in the skincare industry, I often find myself thinking back nearly two decades to a very different question.

A question I asked long before longevity became a trend.

What do I want ageing skin to look like in the future?

That question eventually became the foundation of what is now our Longevity Treatments - Future Advanced Collection.

To understand the answer, you first need to understand how I think about skin.

Skin Is A Biological System

One of the biggest mistakes I believe the skincare industry makes is treating skin like a cosmetic problem rather than a biological system.

Skin is alive. It is constantly adapting, responding, communicating and trying to maintain balance.

Every day, countless biological processes are taking place beneath the surface. Cells communicate. Proteins are produced. Lipids are generated. The skin barrier functions. Renewal processes occur.

When we are young, many of these functions operate efficiently and predictably. As we age, those functions gradually begin to change.

Not because the skin is failing, but because biology changes.

That distinction is important.

Ageing is not a flaw. It is a biological process.

The question is not whether ageing happens. The question is how well the skin functions as it ages.

The Question That Started Everything

Seventeen years ago, when I was developing what would eventually become Skin Virtue, I was running a clinic in Europe and working closely with clients every day.

I was seeing the same pattern repeatedly. People were looking for younger skin. Brands were promising younger skin. Products were promising younger skin.

The entire conversation revolved around reversing time.

But that was never the question I was interested in.

I was not asking how to make fifty-year-old skin look twenty-five.

I was asking how we help fifty-year-old skin behave like the healthiest version of fifty-year-old skin possible.

That may sound like a subtle difference.

It is not.

It changes everything.

Because once you stop focusing on age and start focusing on function, the entire skincare conversation changes.

Why I Called It Future Advanced

When I began designing the Future Advanced Collection, the name was intentional.

I was not thinking about the latest ingredient trend. I was not thinking about stronger actives. I was not thinking about creating aggressive products.

I was thinking about the future condition of the skin.

What would advanced ageing look like if the skin had been intelligently supported over time?

What would happen if we focused on maintaining biological function rather than constantly trying to correct visible symptoms?

What would happen if we supported skin quality, resilience, hydration continuity, vitality and overall skin behaviour?

The answer was Future Advanced.

Not because the products were advanced, but because the goal was advanced skin.

Skin that continued to function well. Skin that remained resilient. Skin that remained balanced. Skin that behaved optimally for longer.

Longevity Skin

Longevity Is Not About Looking Younger

One of the reasons I have always struggled with traditional anti-ageing marketing is that it often creates an impossible objective.

The implication is that ageing itself is the problem.

I do not see it that way.

For me, longevity has never meant trying to stop ageing. It means supporting skin so it ages well.

There is a difference. A significant difference.

Healthy longevity is not about pretending time does not exist. It is about helping the skin maintain the highest possible level of function throughout that journey.

Because when skin function is supported, many visible outcomes can improve naturally.

Skin quality improves. Radiance improves. Comfort improves. Resilience improves. The skin behaves more predictably.

Those are the outcomes I have always been interested in.

Why Trends Have Never Interested Me

One thing that has always fascinated me about the skincare industry is how quickly trends appear.

Every year there is a new ingredient. A new technology. A new buzzword. A new promise.

Brands reformulate. Rebrand. Launch replacement products. Retire previous hero products. Then the cycle repeats.

When I see constant reinvention, I often ask a simple question:

If the answer was already found, why does it need replacing every year?

That does not mean innovation is bad. Innovation is essential. But there is a difference between genuine advancement and chasing attention.

Skin biology does not change every twelve months. The fundamental needs of the skin remain remarkably consistent.

Hydration. Protection. Communication. Renewal. Resilience. Balance.

The technologies we use may evolve. Our understanding may evolve. But the biology remains.

That is why I have always been more interested in understanding skin than chasing trends.

Formulation Philosophy

The Future Of Skincare

I believe the future of skincare will move away from trend-driven conversations and towards biological understanding.

Consumers are becoming more educated. They are asking better questions.

They want to know how their skin works. Why it behaves the way it does. Why certain concerns develop. Why some products perform differently from others.

Because once you understand the biology, the decisions become clearer.

This is where I believe the most meaningful education exists.

Not in teaching people what ingredient to buy, but in helping them understand their skin.

Because once you understand the biology, the decisions become clearer.

Skin Virtue System

Where Future Advanced Fits Within The Skin Virtue System

Future Advanced was never designed to be a third skin type collection.

Skin type remains the foundation. At Skin Virtue, every routine begins with skin type, then concern, then product selection, then active function, then visible outcome.

Skin Type → Collection → Concern → Product → Active Function → Outcome

Future Advanced is the concern-led specialist treatment layer. It can be introduced when concerns include visible ageing, radiance loss, pigmentation appearance, uneven-looking skin tone, firmness concerns, texture refinement, vitality and overall skin quality.

It works alongside the skin-type-led foundation, not in place of it.

What Longevity Means To Me

If I had to define longevity in one sentence, it would be this:

Longevity is supporting the skin's ability to function optimally for as long as possible.

Not fighting biology. Not chasing youth. Not following trends.

Supporting function. Supporting resilience. Supporting skin quality. Supporting the future condition of the skin.

That was the thinking behind Future Advanced seventeen years ago.

And it remains the philosophy behind it today.

Because great skin is not about turning back time.

It is about helping the skin move through time intelligently.
